Your file never leaves this device.
- No upload. The tool reads your file with JavaScript in this tab. There is no server that receives it.
- Enforced, not promised. This page’s Content-Security-Policy only allows connections back to textexporter.com, and the tool never sends your file there. Open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and watch.
- Nothing kept. Close the tab and it’s gone. No cookies, no analytics, no account.
Export Telegram as a PDF
Telegram’s desktop export is the reliable starting point. This tool reads its machine-readable JSON and creates a stable transcript without sending the conversation over the network.
Make the export
- Install and open Telegram Desktop on a computer.
- Open the chat, use its menu, and choose Export chat history.
- Select Machine-readable JSON, not HTML.
- Finish the export and choose
result.jsonabove. You can also choose a ZIP that contains it.
Our Telegram export guide explains the menus and available data settings in more detail.
What you receive
The PDF begins with source facts: title, participants, date range, counts, SHA-256 source hash, and export ID. Messages are numbered and arranged under day headings. Replies, forwarding details, reactions, edits, and attachment references are labeled when Telegram supplies them. Every page has a footer tying it to the same export.
You also get CSV for filtering, TXT for simple reading, and pretty-printed JSON containing the normalized chat. The manifest records hashes and byte counts for the source and generated files. Download the ZIP to keep all five outputs together.
UTC timestamps
Telegram JSON includes Unix timestamps that identify instants rather than an unlabeled wall-clock time. The tool presents those instants in UTC so the record has one explicit standard. UTC may differ from the time shown in your Telegram interface. If local time matters, explain the relevant location and offset separately; do not silently rewrite the source timestamp.
Keep the source
A clean transcript is easier to cite, but it is not a replacement for the original export. Keep result.json and, where relevant, the device and account. Save an untouched copy of the ZIP. The manifest can later show whether your saved files still match this conversion, but it cannot establish what happened before the export was created.
Tips for a useful record
- Export one conversation at a time.
- Include media in the Telegram export if you need the original files, although this PDF only lists them.
- Use a specific title and optional preparer name.
- Review the first 40 entries before creating the full PDF.
- Store the source and complete output ZIP in a read-only or backed-up location.
Limits worth knowing
- Telegram Desktop is required to make the JSON export.
- Media is referenced, not embedded in the PDF.
- The record only contains what Telegram included in result.json.
- Times are displayed in UTC.
