Turn a WhatsApp export into a numbered, timestamped PDF without uploading your messages.

Ready. Your files stay in this browser.

Private by construction

Your file never leaves this device.

  • No upload. The tool reads your file with JavaScript in this tab. There is no server that receives it.
  • Enforced, not promised. This page’s Content-Security-Policy only allows connections back to textexporter.com, and the tool never sends your file there. Open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and watch.
  • Nothing kept. Close the tab and it’s gone. No cookies, no analytics, no account.

How to turn a WhatsApp chat into a PDF

Use WhatsApp’s own Export Chat command, then choose the file above. The converter reads the text locally, shows what it found, and makes a PDF plus useful companion files. Nothing is sent to a content server.

Export on iPhone

  1. Open the conversation in WhatsApp.
  2. Tap the contact or group name, then tap Export Chat.
  3. Choose Without Media for the fullest, quickest text export.
  4. Save the ZIP to Files, then select it above.

Export on Android

  1. Open the chat and tap the three-dot menu.
  2. Choose More, then Export chat.
  3. Choose Without media and save or share the text file.
  4. Select that TXT file above.

See the full WhatsApp export guide if the command is missing or your menus differ.

What the record contains

The cover identifies the source file, participants, date range, counts, preparation details, export ID, and SHA-256 source hash. The transcript keeps source order. Every message has a stable number, time, sender, and text. Day separators make long chats easier to scan. Attachment references, edited markers, and deleted-message placeholders are clearly labeled. Page footers repeat the export ID and a short source hash so loose pages can be matched to the record.

The CSV supports sorting and review in a spreadsheet. TXT is easy to search. JSON preserves the parsed structure. These formats do not replace the original export; keep both.

What is a manifest?

The manifest is a small JSON inventory. It records the SHA-256 hash and byte count of the source and each output. A hash is a digital fingerprint: if one byte changes, the hash changes. The manifest does not prove the chat was complete before export. It helps you show that the files have not changed since this conversion. Download all files together and store an untouched copy.

Practical tips

  • Export without media when you need the longest available text history.
  • Keep the original ZIP or TXT exactly as WhatsApp produced it.
  • Write down which phone made the export and when.
  • Remember that WhatsApp provides no time zone in the text export.
  • Review the date-order notice before creating the PDF.

Limits worth knowing

  • WhatsApp exports do not contain a time zone.
  • Media files are listed, not embedded.
  • The tool cannot show deleted text or anything WhatsApp left out.
  • Advanced Chat Privacy can block export.
  • Formats vary by phone language. We support common formats and warn when a date order is unclear.

Straight answers

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no account, limit, watermark, or payment.

Does it upload my chat?

No. Parsing and PDF creation happen inside your browser. The page never sends your chat to us.

Will it work with a group chat?

Yes. Each participant is listed with a message count.

Why are some dates wrong?

Some exports use day/month and others month/day. If the file is ambiguous, the tool asks you to choose.

Can I use the PDF in court?

You can provide it with your own account of where the messages came from. A court decides what it accepts. Keep the original phone, chat, and export.

Does it include photos?

It lists attachment names and omitted-media markers. It does not embed media files.

Want this for iMessage too?

Text Exporter for iPhone will do the same for iMessage, SMS and screenshots of any app, on your phone. Get one email when it launches, and an early-access invite before that.

We store your email address, the page you signed up on and the date, in our own database. No trackers, no sharing. Privacy
