Export complete
Your record is ready
- Export ID
- Source SHA-256
Private by construction
Your file never leaves this device.
- No upload. The tool reads your file with JavaScript in this tab. There is no server that receives it.
- Enforced, not promised. This page’s Content-Security-Policy only allows connections back to textexporter.com, and the tool never sends your file there. Open your browser’s developer tools, go to Network, and watch.
- Nothing kept. Close the tab and it’s gone. No cookies, no analytics, no account.
Convert a Meta message download
Instagram and Messenger put message history inside Meta’s Download Your Information package. Choose a conversation JSON file or the complete ZIP above. Processing stays in your browser.
- Request a download of your Instagram information from Accounts Center.
- Choose JSON as the format and include messages.
- After the download is ready, keep the original ZIP.
- Select the ZIP here, or find the conversation’s
message_1.json.
See the Instagram export guide for detailed steps.
Facebook Messenger
- Use Accounts Center to download your Facebook information.
- Select messages and JSON format.
- Download the package when Meta says it is ready.
- Choose the ZIP or all
message_N.jsonslices for one thread.
Encrypted Messenger history may require a separate download. Read the Messenger export guide before assuming one package is complete.
Select the right conversation
A full ZIP can hold many inbox threads. The tool lists those thread titles locally and lets you search for the one you need. Nothing from that list is transmitted. If you choose loose files, select every numbered slice for the same conversation at once. Do not combine files from different threads.
What the PDF records
The cover lists the title, participants, date range, counts, source hash, and export ID. The body numbers messages and preserves chronological order based on Meta’s timestamps. Attachments, reactions, calls, and unsent-message markers are shown when present in the export. Page footers connect each page to the same record.
Meta exports have historically contained garbled emoji and accented letters caused by UTF-8 bytes being read as Latin-1. The parser repairs this recognizable pattern and adds a warning so the change is visible. The original source file remains unchanged.
Store all parts together
The PDF is accompanied by CSV, TXT, normalized JSON, and a manifest. The manifest contains SHA-256 fingerprints and byte counts. Use the Download all button and keep the source package too. A later hash check can show whether files changed after conversion. It cannot show that Meta’s package contained every message beforehand.
Practical checks
- Confirm the platform override says Instagram or Facebook Messenger correctly.
- Check participant names and the first 40 messages.
- Use UTC consistently when comparing other records.
- Keep media folders if attachments matter, even though the PDF only lists them.
- Record when and from which account the download was requested.
Limits worth knowing
- The tool only reads conversations included in your Meta download.
- Photos, videos, audio, and other media are listed, not embedded.
- Unsent content cannot be restored.
- Times are shown in UTC.
- Encoding repair is reported when applied.
Straight answers
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. There is no charge, account, or watermark.
Does Meta or Text Exporter receive my files?
No. The tool runs locally and does not upload chat content.
Can I select message_1.json and message_2.json?
Yes. Select all slices for the same conversation together.
Why did the tool fix strange characters?
Some Meta exports contain UTF-8 text decoded as Latin-1. The tool detects and repairs that common mojibake pattern and reports it.
Can it read a full download ZIP?
Yes. If the ZIP has several inbox threads, choose one from the searchable conversation list.
Can the PDF prove who used an account?
No. It records what the export contains. Your own evidence and explanation establish context and identity.
