The Shortcuts app is missing
Messages import (iMessage, SMS and RCS) runs through Apple's Shortcuts app and needs iOS 26 or later. Shortcuts comes with the iPhone but can be deleted. If it's missing, Text Exporter says so and offers to open the App Store. Reinstall the free Shortcuts app from Apple, come back to Text Exporter and add the shortcut again.
Shortcuts asks for permission to read Messages
When the shortcut runs, Shortcuts asks whether it may access Messages. Choose Always Allow so it doesn't ask on every import, or Allow Once to be asked each time. The chat goes straight to Text Exporter on your iPhone; nothing is uploaded.
The WhatsApp export is too large or won't share
WhatsApp builds the export file, and with media it can be large. Export the chat again and choose Without Media, or save the export to Files first and import it from there. WhatsApp says an export with media includes only the most recent media. See how to export a WhatsApp chat.
Where is Messenger's download of encrypted chats?
End-to-end encrypted Messenger chats are not in Meta's Accounts Center download. On a computer, open Messenger.com, then Privacy & safety › End-to-end encrypted chats › Message storage, and choose Download message storage data. Save the ZIP to iCloud Drive or Files, then import it in Text Exporter. See how to download Messenger conversations.
How do I export a Telegram chat?
Only Telegram Desktop exports chats. In a chat, open the ⋮ menu and choose Export chat history, then pick the machine-readable JSON format. Save the export folder somewhere your iPhone can open, such as iCloud Drive. See how to export Telegram chat history.
Restore a purchase
Open Text Exporter, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases, using the same Apple Account you bought with. The button is also on the plans screen.
Cancel Annual
Annual renews each year until you cancel. Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions › Text Exporter › Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date; you keep full exports until the end of the period you paid for. The 7-Day Pass and Lifetime are one-time payments and never renew, so there is nothing to cancel.
Refunds
Apple handles payments for the App Store, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Text Exporter reads and exports your chats on your iPhone. There is no account, and files leave the phone only when you share them. See the privacy policy.
